Step-By-Step

Step 1: Get inspiration "Suggest Challenges"

Start by using heyCASEy to highlight some challenges in reaching the vision. On the https://app.heycasey.io/strategies page, click on the Suggest button in the bottom right of a vision banner.

You will see an in-depth analysis of the vision (all of the company, product, customer and competitor information) to build a set of challenges. You may already have thought of many of these, but heyCASEy can often come up with forgotten edge cases that you may consider. Don't get discouraged by how many there are.

Step 2: Click Add Challenge button

When looking at a Vision on the https://app.heycasey.io/strategies page, click on the Add Challenge/objective box.

Step 3: Challenge and Success Outcome

Start by writing your challenge and outcome. In this example I copies the data security and privacy challenge given by heyCASEy. Then click on the heyCASEy icon in the top right of Challenge/Objective.

After taking the advice from heyCASEy, the success outcome metric and challenge description were refined.

Step 4: Leading Indicators

Click on the icon in the top right of the Indicators section. heyCASEy will suggest faster moving measures of progress and why they are good measures. The goal of these indicators is to help see that progress is being made toward success incrementally. I chose a security incident response time, a audit results, and employee training measures to

Step 5: Hypothesis and Assumptions

A good way to spark the right conversations and ideas to pursue is to understand the assumptions behind solving the challenge, and formulate hypothesis that can be tested to confirm you are on the right track. heyCASEy is good at challenging your assumptions and hypothesis, click on the icon to see a comprehensive list of hypothesis and assumptions. Copy, edit and refine these until you are happy.

Step 6: Close heyCASEy and click Save in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Remember to click SAVE!

Summary

Your new challenge will be listed under the vision it was created for. It displays in summary card form, but can be edited or expanded at anytime. The next step will be come up with ideas to solve the challenge.

Video Transcript

CASEy helps companies succeed by having clearly articulated visions and strategies that get solved. This video will explain how to create a strategic objective for achieving a company, product, or service vision using CASEy at HeyCASEY.io.

CASEy implements the Continuous Adaptive Strategy Execution method, or CASE for short.

CASE is a dynamic method to align strategy within companies and achieve results, and after a clear vision is defined, the challenges in achieving that vision need to be identified.

Challenges and objectives are placeholders for ideas and solutions to be grouped.

Every vision will have a number of challenges and objectives that show what needs to be achieved or overcome for a vision future state to come true.

I track these in two parts.

First, the challenge itself.

What stands between now and the vision success.

Second, a measurable way to know we have overcome this challenge sometimes called an OKR.

Let's create one together.

You can create challenges and OKRs manually, but I can help identify challenges you may not have thought of.

Clicking on the Suggest Challenges button calls on me to offer 10 challenges based on your company information.

Keep in mind, I don't know your company as well as you do, so the better the company background information, the better my suggestions.

Clicking on the Accept Suggestion button creates a new challenge that you can expand and refine.

There is a lot of additional data you can add to a Challenge beyond the challenge and outcome measure.

For example, you can specify leading indicators, assumptions and hypotheses, and priority. These will be covered in another video.

Once you are happy, click Save in the top right.

Each challenge inside a vision gets its own card and outcome graph.

If you don't need my help, you can start with a blank challenge by clicking on the Add + box inside each vision.

And that's it, you have a properly formatted strategic challenge and outcome measure.

Now it's time to come up with ideas for solving those challenges, but that's for another video.
